Cecil Balmond - Informal Structure

'Instead of solidity and certainty, his structures express doubt, arbitrariness, mystery and even mysticism.'

Bernard Tschimu - The event

Architecture ..." It produces atmospheres, memories, arguments, textures of thought, a climate of receptivity and the stage on which performances occur."

Rem Koolhaas - Redefining the "The machine is at the heart of the house"

http://www.oma.eu/projects/1998/maison-%C3%A0-bordeaux/

"The heart of the house is a 3x3.5m elevator platform that moves freely between the three floors, becoming part of the living space or kitchen or transforming itself into an intimate office space, and granting access to books, artwork, and the wine cellar."

( Plans and rough program organisation will be uploaded soon)

- Reverted back to having the 'school' back on site, as opposed to across the road.
- Opting for the school as an addition/alterations/extension that connects existing buildings

- I am thinking of going with the ' blue option'
- connects from the main walk way: extension to the Blockhouse will link via a 'footbridge' to the Square house.
- Materials: Glass, Steel, Concrete. to contrast & thereby emphasise existing building materials (brickwork) etc.
- split program, maximises flexibility of use - speaks to the idea of the school as a bridge that connects usage in existing buildings.
- note to self: explore the 'interstitial space' / old and new : link Bernard tschumi article.

"Electroliquid Aggregation": 1 + 1 = 3

ELECTROLIQUID AGGREGATION

Anti-Volume ( Kengo Kuma)
Reducing a building to its absolute, bare and necessary elements & in doing so achieving a degree of transparency and material expressiveness.

Metabolism (Kenzo Tange, rephrased)
Architecture as a balance of gender through brutalism (brute strength/structure) and ornament (delicacy/decoration).

RESULTING CONCEPT

The reduction of the built form to its raw and necessary elements to create an architecture that is honest and gender neutral. That is, where the structural and brute strength of elements is balanced by its ’natural ornamentation’- found in a materials delicate tactile and tangible qualities.
